How to Write a Cookbook: About The Rose Cookbook - a Treasury of Rose Recipes from Around the World
Today, I wanted to tell you a little bit more about my book, The Rose Cookbook-a Treasury of Rose Recipes from Around the World. I’m also posting one of the videos about my cookbook here so you can see how I’m using video to market my cookbook. Keep in mind that one of my target markets is the “tea party” crowd! Of which, I’m a card carrying member!
I began the book in 2000 and after mulling over it, I finally self-published the book in 2007. Writing my first cookbook has changed my life for the better. Looking back, my only wish is that it hadn’t taken me so long. But, no regrets here! Now I’m just having so much fun with it, that I’m just grateful to have been able to see it through. It has been a labor of love.
My book has opened many wonderful doors for me. For one thing, I was compelled to create my cookbook writing course – “The 7 Secrets of a Successful Self-Published Cookbook.” I’ve now made it a personal mission to help as many motivated cookbook authors make their dream of having a cookbook a reality as I can, with the help of this course.

How to Write a Cookbook - Survival Guide for Writing a Cookbook
Whether you’re interested in writing a cookbook, self-publishing a cookbook, or marketing a cookbook you’ve just completed, you’ve come to the right place! I published my first cookbook The Rose Cookbook- a Treasury of Rose Recipes from Around the World, in 2007. You can read more about my book at TheRoseDiva.com.
Since then I’ve been involved with some pro-chefs, personal chefs and non-profit organizations, who had a similar idea, they all wanted to write and self-publish a cookbook to benefit their businesses. Rather than work with them one-on-one, I realized there was a need for an up-to-the-minute cookbook writing course. That got me thinking, so I created my new home study course – “The 7 Secrets of a Successful Self-Published Cookbook.”
From the response I received for last week’s introductory teleseminar, I’m certain my hunch was right. Callers from all over the United States were on the line. Even more exciting were the calls that came from outside the US, including Canada, Turkey, and Italy. I’m now coaching a student from Nepal, who’s writing his first cook: “Recipes from Top of the World.” The internet and social networking sites have given me to ability to deliver this class on a global level. It’s exciting to embrace these possibilities!
This week I wanted to focus on how to get started with a cookbook. I decided to come up with a “Survival Guide” for cookbook writing. Like any book, it’s very important to gain clarity on your “why.” Why do you want to write your cookbook? I ask all my students this question. Knowing the answer to this question will keep you on course throughout the writing, publishing, and marketing processes. So give it some thought, and write down your ideas. Knowing “why” will act as your compass throughout the journey—when the going can get tough. Your clarity will keep you focused and keep you moving forward. You won’t throw up your hands in frustration half way through and ask, “Why am I doing this?”
Writing a book can be strenuous, so I wanted to share some good pointers about preparing yourself and your home, for the “cookbook journey.” This is just a small part of what’s in store in my class.
